A blog about everything by Jack Baty

I miss my wiki

Maybe abandoning my TiddlyWiki wiki wasn't such a great idea after all.

Sometimes I miss things after deciding I no longer needed them. Take my wiki (https://rudimentarylathe.org) for example. Earlier this year, I exported all the content from the wiki and converted it for use in my Denote notes. The idea was that I wanted all my notes in one place. I spent too much time writing the same things in two places.

What I've learned since then is that the notes in my wiki are more fun and useful than those same notes in Emacs/Org mode. I don't know why this is, but there it is.

The thing I like about TiddlyWiki (there are, in fact, A few things I like about TiddlyWiki) is that it's easy to make it public. I like working in public. The wiki is a nice place to "put stuff" online that's not a blog. It's an intertwingled scrapbook.

I still want everything in one place, and given my wiki's public nature, I can't have everything in on place if I plan to continue using TiddlyWiki.

For now, anyway, I plan to dust off the wiki and see how it feels to dump stuff into it again. This means figuring out the "but where does this note go?" problem, so maybe I'll change my mind.
