Ghost and ActivityPub

A few weeks ago, I asked, "Could Ghost be my Mastodon?" Today, I'm in a better position to evaluate this. As soon as Magic Pages announced the availability of Ghost's Social Web features, I moved the blog back to Magic Pages and enabled the beta. I'm @jack@copingmechanism.com and can be followed on any platform supporting ActivityPub. For me, this means Mastodon.

I like the idea of being on social media without being on social media. I don't want to self-host a Mastodon of GoToSocial instance. I like the idea of integrating my blog with my short social posts. Using Ghost and ActivityPub seems like a decent way to do this.

It's not ready yet, though. First, the whole thing is beta. Who knows what might break? Second, there's no way to migrate followers, etc. from Mastodon. This is a problem. I should wait. Except I probably won't wait.

For now, I'm going to try dipping my feet in by making short posts from Ghost and asking a few kind folks to follow me and help test things. I'll maintain my usual profile at @jbaty@social.lol for now.
