I'm feeling very analog today. This is the opposite of how I felt yesterday, and likely the opposite of how I'll feel tomorrow.

Thinking about changing how daily notes work. I feel that putting most things in my wiki gives me the most benefits, even if it's weirder for visitors. So I'm planning to spend more time writing this stuff there instead. For here on baty.net, I may post a daily photo or summary or quote or something. We'll see.

I'm half an inch away from punting and just putting it all in Apple Notes.

As much as I love the HHKB , having to use the function layer constantly via my right pinky is finally causing some discomfort in my hand. I may go back to the stock Apple keyboard or maybe the Realforce R2 that's in storage. New post: I love the HHKB but my pinky hurts - Jack Baty's Weblog

A nice attribute of Reflect.app is that the devs are in no way focused on collaborative features. This is a good thing. I don't need or want other people in my notes.

I miss using my wiki .

Emacs suddenly stopped working this morning and I'm tired of it. (FIXED by reinstalling emacs-plus and running doom sync)

ox-hugo added support for drawers . I'm not sure what this is good for yet.

What can I do to put Texas and Florida under water sooner?

Just spent 20 minutes reading the most inane thread on the Leica forums. It's no wonder people with Leicas have a bad reputation. We deserve it.

Alice's poop was semi-normal this morning, but the best news is that she slept from 11:00 pm until 5:00 am which means I had five whole hours of uninterrupted sleep. That's not nearly enough sleep, but I'll take it, since I've not had more than two hours at a time since Saturday.

...And thanks for hanging around for my compelling content!

I'm learning that I can totally do without block references. Whodathunk?

Good morning. My dog's had diarrhea for 3 days and that has meant getting up to take her out every 2 or 3 hours which also means that I've gotten almost no decent sleep this week. How's your day going? 💩

Speaking of Alice, I got another yawn shot yesterday.

I had a scary issue with EagleFiler so I emailed support and in 20 minutes I got a response from Michael Tsai with the solution. This is the great thing about using established, thoughtful, cared for apps.

I've gotten a couple of questions about this blog's theme, so I added some notes to the About page

One nice thing about the Leica M10-R is that when there's a firmware update I don't have to sift through all sorts of video updates to get to the good stuff.

Sure wish Capture One had "Select Subject". Oh, and an ecosystem.

It might be time to admit that Hanlon's razor is outdated. It probably is malice.

One difference between a tool like Logseq and Org-roam is that with Logseq, connections just appear and are easy to spot. It makes serendipitous discovery more likely. With Org-roam it feels like I need to go looking for connections. If I need to go looking, the tool is less useful.

I finally cleaned my mouse (MX Master 3 ) and my whole world feels better.

I prefer wired devices but I hate wires.

Well, having run the full course of so-called success in America, I can say it's just bankruptcy, it's ludicrousy, it's meaningless.

I'll be talking to you know, some girl at Hertz Rent-a-Car, and tell her, "Don't ask me for my autograph, it's meaningless, it doesn't mean anything."" I tell the Tahitians, "Don't bother with buying that it's not going to make your life better, and don't go where he is going, 'cause I just came from there, and there's nothing there."

You guys sitting with your guitar and your bottle of beer and getting excited about fish, and sitting and bullshitting on your front porches, that's about all there is to it. You guys get more laughs per hour than probably anybody else in the world, and what else is there?

I'm now maintaining two blogs with identical content. Yes, I know it's stupid. UPDATE: No I'm not.

Installed and configured MarsEdit 4 but realized that if I'm going to edit posts in one place, and view them in another, I might as well use a static site. (So that's what I did. I moved it all back to Hugo this morning.) Dizzy yet? I am.

The best thing for my mental health might be to just get away from all of it.

Trying to make some digital prints this morning. I wonder if I'll ever get to the point where I don't hate everything about the process. I don't know what's worse, scanning film or digital printing.

Today I learned that botheration is an actual word. How fun! I'm officially coining the phrase "Botheration Nation". For what, I don't know. Just read the news, I guess.

I don't have a job, so Fridays should mean nothing to me, and yet, I'm happy it's Friday.

Upgraded the Q2 Monochrom to firmware 2.0, which adds Highlight Weighted Metering. This is great becase the Q2M pretty easily blows highlights and they're unrecoverable. I'd much rather have crunched blacks than blown highlights.

I hate the feeling of needing to be seen.

I'm confident that we'll solve climate change. I'm less confident that we'll solve politics. Which means the future remains bleak.

Bringing a film camera "out and about" is less and less enjoyable for me. I'm learning to prefer digital for the snapshots and save film for specific events. This would all be easier if the MP didn't feel so damn good to simply hold.

I need to get over this...

A large part of what makes me prefer film photos is just knowing they’re film photos. That means something to me, and influences how I respond to an image.
