The bikes vs cars debate has descended into unreasonableness. I haven’t been in the mood for writing actual Blog Posts lately. I can’t seem to muster the energy it takes to put together useful sentences or thoughts around a topic deserving of its own post. I much prefer just rambling about whatever I’m thinking about in these daily posts instead. There’s no pressure. I don’t have to think of a title. Continue reading

In this Stereogum piece, Tom Breihan kind of blames Barenaked Ladies for our current billioniare situation: The three guys who are constantly competing to be the richest man on the planet? All fucking dorks. They expect us to love them for it, too. I didn’t like the shadowy ratfuckers who ran the planet before those guys, but they at least had the decency to be shadowy ratfuckers. They didn’t care if people admired them. Continue reading

I still really like what Hey email is doing, but after using it with my main account again for a few days, I have to stop. It’s too slow. It didn’t used to be too slow, but now it’s taking 3-5 seconds to switch between views and also way too long to render emails. Darn. UPDATE: This seems to have been a Safari issue, specifically with the Neeva extension. I’ve removed the extension and Hey (and other apps) are speedy again. Continue reading

I wish I were less inclined to let The Internet influence my decisions. It’s not just a small influence. My entire personality can change based on the most recent blog post I’ve read. I change up my entire workflow because someone wrote something about doing things a different way that I’ve yet to try. It’s crazy-making. The battle for my private daily notes rages on. It is currently between Emacs/Org-mode and TheBrain. Continue reading

When I stop to think about it, the thought is a little scary. As someone who enjoys exploring productivity and meta-research tooling, I do pause to think that I’m “stuck” using org-mode and Emacs from time to time. But I don’t really see any other way: Org Mode - Weakty …same. I have a decision to make regarding Org-roam vs Denote. Both, of course, work well as note-taking tools. The decision is between all-the-features-I-could-ever-need and a simple folder full of text files, with no dependencies. Continue reading

When using variable-pitched fonts in Emacs, the Modus themes are the only themes that handle the various options correctly. For example, with :PROPERTIES: drawers, the start and end labels should be monospaced. Modus are the only themes I’ve found that do this out of the box. It’s a small thing, but demonstrates the care that has gone into the themes. I sometimes consider trading the M10-R for a (regular) Q2. I miss the convenience of auto-focus and weather sealing and simplicity offered by the Q2. Continue reading

The full moon was astonishingly large and bright during my walk this morning. I actually had to just stop and stare at it for a while. Just paid $4.99 for amake/orgro: An Org Mode file viewer for iOS and Android because all I wanted was a simple way to view org files on my phone. No tasks, agendas, etc. Just a reader for my org notes. LinkedIn is hell Hang on to your old Leicas: Oskar One Zero Five sells for €14. Continue reading

I spent more time yesterday testing the new (alpha) version of TheBrain. Changes to the notes editor are quite nice. A little too WYSIWYG for my taste, but I think most people will like it. The biggest problem is that TheBrain is not Emacs. I find TheBrain to be wildly useful for making and finding connections. Its search is fast and there’s really no fear of outgrowing it. But yeah, I want to use Emacs for notes. Continue reading

There’s a new version of TheBrain available: TheBrain 13 Alpha. Of course I’m trying it! Big item this time is the notes editor and markdown improvements. Still no Vim bindings 😆. Enough with the Dall-E silliness, already. My feeds are pretty much overwhelmed with nonsense Dall-E images and Wordle results. I have no knowledge of any specifics, no insider information of any sort (I’m an outsider for sure where Leica is concerned): but I think the “gestalt,” as they say, of the Leica M10 was guided by a single person, a single vision.
